VOYAGES IMMOBILESLE GRAND TOUR
Inquisitive, open-minded, appreciative of beauty and cultures from all over the world: that was Desmond Knox-Leet, Yves Coueslant and Christiane Montadre, the three artist-aesthetes who founded diptyque in Paris in 1961. Whether real or imagined, travel has always been one of the main sources of inspiration for the Maison, as much for the creation of its perfumes as for the designs that adorn them.
To mark its 60th birthday, diptyque celebrates this passion for other horizons, for art and for perfume with the exhibition "Immobile Journeys". In this show curated by Jérôme Sans, nine contemporary artists present their vision of the journey through their interpretations of diptyque’s iconic destinations. A journey marked by fragrance, from France to Japan, via Italy, Greece and Lebanon.
Immobile Journeys explores the extraordinary polysemy of ‘travel’ in the age of international nomadism and the period following the world’s sudden descent into global immobility through to its apparent reopening. The pausing of the possibility of travel and the reappearance of land borders have failed to dampen the universal desire for discovery, a change of scene and the chance to escape, or our thirst to experience other cultures and realities.
